A Queensland car giant has continued its rapid expansion after a landmark takeover of an iconic Australian caravan and motorhome business believed to be worth more than $10 million. Bartons Car Dealership, which has locations at Wynnum and Redlands, recently acquired Jayco’s Brisbane Camperland at Tingalpa – the country’s biggest caravan and motorhome dealership.

The award-winning business – named Jayco National Dealer of the Year in 2022 – was owned and operated by caravan and RV tycoons the Carnavas family for more than 42 years and with more than 60 staff and selling 1250 units per year is a giant acquisition for Bartons. A historic bayside business which has been around since 1945, Bartons’ further expansion comes after several other major investments since 2020.

Those moves include completing more than $10 million of upgrades to their showrooms at both Wynnum and Capalaba, adding more brands such as Haval, LDV and Chery under their banner and even opening showrooms for golf carts and road scooters.

“Given that the business was family owned, local and a very similar culture with family values I felt this was a great fit for Bartons.

Further I see the cross over between the businesses being massive into the future.” Mr Beitz said he looked back at the business’ growth over the past decade with great pride.

“Our growth has been amazing particularly in the last 11 years we have gone from having here at Wynnum 100 staff and two brands to now over 370 staff, seven brands, locations at Wynnum, Capalaba, Acacia Ridge, Robina and now our new business at Tingalpa,” he said.

“It really is testament to our loyal and committed staff and the support from our community.” Even though Mr Beitz was content with where the business was, he said he could see more growth in the future.

“We will open our new Chery showrooms officially in late August however the plan is to consolidate for the rest of 2023 and early into 2024 and look at what opportunities may exist later into next year,” he said.

“We have enough on our plate at the moment so nothing more in the short term. We do have the Peugeot Light commercial brand coming to our East Coast Commercials business in September as well.”
